The answer to controlling healthcare cost, the percent of GDP and the continued increase in growth appears to be two fold:
a. Through the use of technology show the growth of healthcare costs down by at least 1% per year. If we can do this, Medicare will be $1 billion in the black versus the current course of $660,000,000
b. Create a culture of wellness in the U.S. to the degree that people who make unhealthy and thus expensive personal decisions have to pay more for their healthcare. (Four of the top 6 medical conditions are lifestyle induced.)
c. Create a tax incentive for small businesses when their premiums skyrocket due to an illness within their employee base. This is where most businesses get into premium trouble. We need to provide relief to businesses when they find themselves in this unfortunate situation.
d. Create an alternative for individuals who see their premium sky rocket because of a medical issue. When an individual premium goes from $252 a month to $735 to $1,260 it becomes unaffordable! These premium increases are due to an illness this person experienced.
The answer is not creating another health insurance option, which puts more cost into the current system.
The answer is in providing healthcare for those who cannot survive within the health insurance system.
